FORD ENGINEERING WINS STATE AWARD AND RECOGNITION AS A NATIONAL FINALISTS
Ford Engineering, Inc., an engineering and surveying firm locally owned and operated has been awarded first place in the 2003 Engineering Excellence Awards Competition held by the Texas Council of Engineering Companies and named national finalist by the American Council of Engineering Companies for their entry titled "Navigating Our Future Through GPS Technology".
The submittal was based on the research and development of a project started about a year ago, which outlines the firms primary involvement in a collaborative effort in initiating the combined use of Global Positioning Satellites (GPS) and Cellular Phone Technology for surveying applications.
The submittal further outlines Ford Engineering's involvement in sponsoring and supporting the plans of the Texas A&M Corpus Christe-Conrad Blucher Institute for Science and Surveying to bring a Texas Height Modernization Program benefiting the entire state by helping monitor storm surge, flooding, and coastal subsidence.
The National Height Modernization Program is managed by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) within the U.S. Department of Commerce and is an effort to enhance the vertical aspect of the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) by providing better access to accurate and consistent height data at the local level through the use of GPS.
The Engineering Excellence Award Competition has been held by the Texas Council of Engineering Companies since its inception in 1975 to honor and recognize outstanding achievements within the engineering community.
The distinguished panel of judges from around the state selected ten winning projects along with a few honorable mentions from a broad field based on uniqueness, originality, technical complexity, value to the engineering profession, and impact on economic resourcefulness and social contribution to the community.
Ford Engineering, Inc., along with the other award recipients will be honored at the 2003 Engineering Excellence Awards Banquet scheduled to be hosted at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas on April 7, 2003.
